A new application must be filled out each year and will remain effective for the entire school year, including summer school. Only complete one application per household. A household is considered all persons, related or unrelated: Including parents, children, grandparents who live in your home and share living expenses. You may apply anytime during the school year.
Eligibility is determined by the household’s total income or by their categorical eligibility. The total household income is the income each household member receives each month before taxes – this includes wages, social security, pension, unemployment, welfare, child support, alimony, and any other cash income. Families with incomes at or below 130% of the poverty level are eligible for free meals. Families with incomes between 130 – 185% of the poverty level are eligible for reduced price meals. The reduced price meals are: Lunch - .40 and Breakfast - .30. Students may be categorically eligible if one member of your household is currently receiving assistance (benefits) from one of the following Programs: CalFresh, FDPIR, CalWORKs, or Kin-Gap. As of November 2011, all Foster children are also categorically eligible for free meal benefits. Mark the Foster child box on the application after the child's name. Click here for eligibility guidelines.
The information you give will be used to determine or prove your child’s eligibility for free or reduced price meals. This information may also be used for other state or federally funded school benefits. Your child will not be overtly identified, and their meal eligibility will remain confidential.
